Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) Chairman Felicito C. Payumo (third from right) and BCDA President and CEO Arnel Paciano Casanova (second from right) plant a Mali-Mali seedling at the caldera of Mt. Natib during the recently held Mt. Natib Flora Adventure Hunt. The caldera of Mt. Natib is a hot spot of kaingin or the slash and burn practice that has denuded the forest cover of Mt. Natib. The adventure hunt culminated in the Bataan Technology Park (BTP)—a BCDA operated special economic zone. Looking on (from right) are BCDA Vice President for Business Development and Operations Dean J. Santiago, Team Forest Guide Joseph Salonga and Mga Bayani ng Kalikasan (MBNK) Overall Coordinator and Organizer Dennis Cuatro (standing). The adventure hunt was in memory and honor of the late Botanist Leonard Co for his valuable work in documenting the different flora of Mt. Natib. The trees planted on Mt. Natib are expected to reduce the carbon foot print brought by the carbon emissions of vehicles plying the Bataan alignment of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). The BCDA is the builder and owner of the SCTEX.
