Fluvial parade highlights 1st ever ‘Sillag’ festival in LU

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, April 18 (PIA) -- As part of the summer festival in La Union, the Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC) will launch its first-ever “Sillag-The Poro Point Festival of Lights” through a competition for the best decorated boat in the Fluvial Parade to highlight the festivities on April 28.

This competition is open to any government agency or office, private firm, professional organization and non-governmental organization in the region, according to PPMC.

Since the festival is called ‘Sillag’, participating agencies or companies are expected to decorate its boats with colorful lighting effects to symbolize boats coming inland guided by the light emitted by the lighthouse.

Parade will start at 6:00 p.m. from barangay Pagudpud this city going to boardwalk of Thunderbird, according to Florante S. Gerdan, President and Chief Excutive Officer of PPMC, during the “Tugtugan at Talakayan” radio program over Hot FM in Agoo.

Judging of entries will be on the day of the parade to choose the best decorated boats based on: Craftmanship, 35 percent; Originality, 35 percent and Overall Aesthetic Appeal, 30 percent.

PPMC will award the following prizes: first prize, P50,000; second prize, P30,000; third prize, P20,000; fourth prize, P10,000 and fifth prize, P 5,000.


Gerdan also stressed that thru this activity, tourism will be enhanced and at the same time promotes the province products to both local and foreign visitors as the festival is open to everyone.

Gerdan assured that there are lots of activities to expect on the 28 day of April such as concert, children’s show, magical shows and musicals other than the Fluvial Parade competition. (ANL/MHH-PIA 1 with reports from PPMC1)
