CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The BCDA pursues with enthusiasm its various corporate social responsibility programs—reaching not only people who have been directly affected by its undertakings but also those who share in the organization's aspirations for a more caring, more nurturing Philippine society.

Greening SCTEX

BCDA pursued environmental projects like its “Greening SCTEX Program” that aims to grow 50,000 trees along the entire stretch of the toll road in five years.  Also, the program is designed to forge partnerships with corporations and other organizations into adopting a kilometer each of the 94-km stretch of the SCTEX for tree-planting and maintenance activities through the years.

The kick-off ceremony in July 24, 2008 saw some 2,000 Narra trees planted in the vicinity of the Clark North B Interchange in Barangay Dolores, Mabalacat, Pampanga.  As of July 2009, 9,000 trees have already been planted along the SCTEX.

Housing Projects

Under Executive Order 70, BCDA is mandated to declare portions of its property in Fort Bonifacio and its environs as socialized housing sites, and to provide for the disposition of the said lands to qualified beneficiaries.

These lands include the following: 48-hectare Lupang Katuparan; the 13.08-hectare Centennial Village Area (one of the two medium-rise buildings along the C-5 highway); and the 35-hectare Bonifacio Housing and Information Technology (BHIT) Park Area.  Other housing projects consist of: the Northside Strip Housing Project (formerly Fort Bonifacio Summit Housing Project), the 2,880 unit medium-rise Pamayanang Diego Silang located along C-5; Pabahay 2000, Kalayaan, Villamor Air Base and Scout Barrio in Baguio City.

As of mid-2009, 3,816 families have benefited from the program - 2,086 were accommodated in relocation sites (1,194 in Lupang Katuparan; 49 in Tanza, Cavite; 430 in Philippine Centennial Village; and, 413 in Pamayanang Diego Silang), while 1,730 received cash compensation to relocate to their chosen sites.

SCTEX Community Relations

Part of BCDA’s task in the construction of the SCTEX was to make sure that the needs of all project-affected communities are adequately and promptly addressed.  Leading these initiatives is the SCTEX Community Relations Unit, which has helped facilitate dialogues with project-affected people (lot owners and informal settlers / tillers) on issues related to right-of-way acquisition, access and livelihood.

BCDA, in coordination with the local government units of Central Luzon, continues to perform several medical missions in project-affected areas such as Bataan and Pampanga. Livelihood programs were also launched in Tarlac in coordination with the Land Bank of the Philippines.

Assistance to Local Governments & other agencies

Other infrastructure built by BCDA in support of local communities are the Php30 million road widening of the Gapan-San Fernando-Olongapo Road in Pampanga; and the Php1.9 million renovation of the Nature Pavilion Center in Dinalupihan, Bataan, among others.
